CEOS WGISS – One-day workshop on Earth observation data system of cloud computing

The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Working Group on Information Systems and Services (WGISS) will convene a one-day workshop on the Earth observation data system use of cloud computing. This workshop will be held on 20 September 2016, in conjunction with the WGISS plenary meeting in Frascati, Italy, hosted by the European Space Agency.   The workshop will provide information on CEOS agencies’ cloud computing activities ongoing and planned. This workshop will provide the Earth observation community with a dedicated forum for discussing new research, development, and deployment efforts on cloud computing infrastructures and trends in the implementation of big data systems toward cloud computing.   Cloud computing topics of interest include: •       Performance evaluation of environments and technologies •       Data intensive workloads and tools •       I/O and data management •       Use cases, current and future •       Limitations   Invited Speakers include: JAXA – Satellite Applications and Operations Center ESA – Ground Segment & Mission Operations Department, Earth Observation Programme Directorate CNES – Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales NOAA – Technology, Planning and Integration for Observation program (TPIO) NASA- Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS)   Participants will include technical experts, data system managers, system engineers, CEOS agency representatives and big data enthusiasts. The workshop findings will be summarised in a technical report that can be used by agencies to make informed decisions on the adoption and implementation of cloud computing for Earth observation data systems.   For further information related to the meeting, please contact Andrew Mitchell, WGISS Chairperson (Andrew.E.Mitchell@NASA.gov).
